The Law of One
All things are one being; the rest of the teaching is the unfolding of that single distortion into light and love.
All things are one; that one is the Infinite Creator.
In plain language
Ra's entire teaching rests on a single claim: everything that exists is one thing. Not connected, not similar — the same thing. What appears as a universe of separate entities, planets, and events is the single Infinite Creator experiencing itself from countless points of view at once.
The reasoning Ra offers is almost mathematical: that which is infinite cannot be many, because many-ness is a finite concept. To have infinity you must define it as unity, or the term loses any referent (). Infinity, unity, and the Creator are three names for the same reality. And the practical consequence follows directly: if all is one, then the separations we treat as fundamental — between self and other, between good and evil — are not ultimate. They are distortions: finite expressions of the unlimited, the way a prism splits white light into colors that remain, underneath, the same light.
The spiritual path, in this frame, is not acquiring something new but remembering a unity that was never actually lost.
The core statement
Ra's clearest formulation of the Law comes in a response to a direct question: the Law may be approximated by stating that all things are one, that there is no polarity, no right or wrong, no disharmony — but only identity. All is one, and that one is love/light, light/love, the Infinite Creator (). Identity is the precise word — not similarity, not kinship, but the same thing at root. Ra extends this to the second person: you are every thing, every being, every emotion, every event, every situation — unity, infinity, love/light ().
The infinity claim is load-bearing. The first known thing in the creation is infinity — and that infinity is creation (). Before any particular thing — before density, before form, before even the concept of many — there is the single intelligent infinity that is creation itself.
Distortion: the load-bearing term
Because the One is undivided, any specific thing — an idea, an emotion, a self — is a distortion of it: a finite manifestation of something unlimited. Ra applies this term without negative valuation. When Ra describes its own teaching as a distortion, this is not a disclaimer of error but an acknowledgment that any communication, any thought, any form is necessarily partial relative to the whole. Hear distortion as particular manifestation, and the cosmology becomes internally consistent.
The creation begins when intelligent infinity discerned a concept — finity — through freedom of will, and invested itself in an exploration of many-ness (). From that primal paradox the entire creation unfolds, endlessly, in an eternal present.
The three primal distortions
Out of unity, the One differentiates in a specific order Ra traces carefully (). Free Will — the First Distortion — is the Creator's freedom to know itself in any way. Free Will finds focus and becomes the Second Distortion: Love, also called the Logos, the Creative Principle, the great activator of creation. This intelligent energy then creates the Third Distortion: Light — the substance Love uses to build. After these three, the many hierarchies of distortions that follow are equal to one another, no one being more important than another ().
The pairing of Love and Light, which appears throughout the material as love/light and light/love, reflects the asymmetry Ra draws: Love directs and activates; Light is the directed substance. In the activity of unity through its free will, love uses light and has the power to direct light in its distortions (). Reversing the order shifts emphasis — love/light stresses the activating principle, light/love stresses the formed result.
Healing as a primal distortion
Ra describes healing as one of the primal distortions of the Law of One — not incidentally but structurally (). Healing occurs when a mind/body/spirit complex realizes, deep within itself, the Law of One: that there is no fundamental disharmony, no imperfection, that all is whole. When that realization takes hold, intelligent infinity re-forms the illusion of body, mind, or spirit to a form congruent with the Law of One (). The connection between the metaphysical claim and the practical phenomenon of healing is direct: because all is one, any apparent disorder is an illusion that realizing oneness can dissolve.
In Ra's words
The argument from infinity to unity, and the second-person statement of the Law:
That which is infinite cannot be many, for many-ness is a finite concept. To have infinity you must identify or define that infinity as unity; otherwise, the term does not have any referent or meaning. In an Infinite Creator there is only unity. You have seen simple examples of unity. You have seen the prism which shows all colors stemming from the sunlight. This is a simplistic example of unity.
In truth there is no right or wrong. There is no polarity, for all will be, as you would say, reconciled at some point in your dance through the mind/body/spirit complex which you amuse yourself by distorting in various ways at this time. This distortion is not in any case necessary. It is chosen by each of you as an alternative to understanding the complete unity of thought which binds all things.
You are not speaking of similar or somewhat like entities or things. You are every thing, every being, every emotion, every event, every situation. You are unity. You are infinity. You are love/light, light/love. You are. This is the Law of One.
The Law approximated in plain terms — identity, not merely relationship:
The Law of One, though beyond the limitations of name, as you call vibratory sound complexes, may be approximated by stating that all things are one, that there is no polarity, no right or wrong, no disharmony, but only identity. All is one, and that one is love/light, light/love, the Infinite Creator.
The three primal distortions unfolding in sequence:
After this point, the many-ness of distortions are equal one to another. The First Distortion, Free Will, finds focus. This is the Second Distortion known to you as Logos, the Creative Principle, or Love. This intelligent energy thus creates a distortion known as Light.
From these three distortions come many, many hierarchies of distortions, each having its own paradoxes to be synthesized, no one being more important than another.
In Ra's words — The Law of One — Essentials
The Ra material rests on a single foundational claim: everything that exists is a single infinite Creator, and every apparent division — polarity, density, right and wrong — is a distortion, a finite shape the One takes rather than a flaw to overcome. These ten exchanges form the load-bearing structure of that argument. They move from the bare assertion of unity (, ) through the cosmogenesis from infinite potential to focused creative energy and light (, , ), and into the rhythm by which love directs light to generate creation () and the step-by-step self-knowing by which the Creator refines the One Original Thought (). The final three passages turn that metaphysics toward practice: how to distill experience rather than overcome it (), how to perceive the Creator in every other-self and in the mirror (), and the reminder that all of this — the techniques, the seeking, the densities — begins and ends not in method but in unity ().
The passages
— You are unity
That which is infinite cannot be many, for many-ness is a finite concept. To have infinity you must identify or define that infinity as unity; otherwise, the term does not have any referent or meaning. In an Infinite Creator there is only unity.
…
You are every thing, every being, every emotion, every event, every situation. You are unity. You are infinity. You are love/light, light/love. You are. This is the Law of One.
— All things are one
The Law of One, though beyond the limitations of name, as you call vibratory sound complexes, may be approximated by stating that all things are one, that there is no polarity, no right or wrong, no disharmony, but only identity. All is one, and that one is love/light, light/love, the Infinite Creator.
— Potential and kinetic
There is unity. This unity is all that there is. This unity has a potential and kinetic. The potential is intelligent infinity. Tapping this potential will yield work. This work has been called by us, intelligent energy.
— The first known thing
The first known thing in the creation is infinity. The infinity is creation.
— The three primal distortions
The First Distortion, Free Will, finds focus. This is the Second Distortion known to you as Logos, the Creative Principle, or Love. This intelligent energy thus creates a distortion known as Light.
From these three distortions come many, many hierarchies of distortions, each having its own paradoxes to be synthesized, no one being more important than another.
— Love uses light
In the sense of the activity of unity in its free will, love uses light and has the power to direct light in its distortions. Thus vibratory complexes recapitulate in reverse the creation in its unity, thus showing the rhythm, or flow, of the great heartbeat, if you will use this analogy.
— The Creator experiences Itself
The One Original Thought is the harvest of all previous, if you would use this term, experience of the Creator by the Creator.
As It decides to know Itself, It generates Itself into that plenum, full of the glory and the power of the One Infinite Creator, which is manifested to your perceptions as space or outer space. Each generation of this knowing begets a knowing which has the capacity, through free will, to choose methods of knowing Itself.
Therefore, gradually, step by step, the Creator becomes that which may know Itself, and the portions of the Creator partake less purely in the power of the original word or thought. This is for the purpose of refinement of the One Original Thought. The Creator does not properly create as much as It experiences Itself.
— Nothing shall be overcome
The proper role of the entity is, in this density, to experience all things desired, to then analyze, understand, and accept these experiences, distilling from them the love/light within them. Nothing shall be overcome. That which is not needed falls away.
The orientation develops due to analysis of desire. These desires become more and more distorted towards conscious application of love/light as the entity furnishes itself with distilled experience.
— See the Creator
The universe is one being. When a mind/body/spirit complex views another mind/body/spirit complex, see the Creator. This is an helpful exercise.
Exercise Three. Gaze within a mirror. See the Creator.
Exercise Four. Gaze at the creation which lies about the mind/body/spirit complex of each entity. See the Creator.
— Begin and end in the Creator
Let us remember that we are all one. This is the great learning/teaching. In this unity lies love. This is a great learn/teaching. In this unity lies light. This is the fundamental teaching of all planes of existence in materialization. Unity, love, light, and joy: this is the heart of evolution of the spirit.
…
Always begin and end in the Creator, not in technique.
