The Law of One

Between January 1981 and March 1984, Don Elkins, Carla Rueckert and Jim McCarty held 106 sessions in which Elkins put questions to a source calling itself Ra. Rueckert spoke the answers; McCarty transcribed them. What survives is a transcript — not a treatise and not a scripture — and it reads like one: a physicist interrogating a claim, session after session, for three years, getting better at the questions as he goes.

The claim is that everything is one Creator coming to know itself, and that consciousness climbs toward that knowing in stages. From it follow the subjects the contact returns to: the densities and the harvest, polarity and the choice between service to others and service to self, the energy centers and healing, catalyst and incarnation, the veil and the archetypal mind, meditation and the disciplines, and the cosmic society the contact says it speaks from. Each has a guide here that assembles what the corpus actually says about it, quoting the transcript throughout.

The transcript itself is reproduced verbatim, in full, at /sessions. What this edition adds is the apparatus a dense text needs. Ra speaks a private vocabulary — density, distortion, harvest, wanderer, catalyst, social memory complex — and the lexicon defines each term and shows every place it is used, in context and in order, so a word can be read the way Ra used it rather than the way it sounds. The archetypes, practices and timeline do the same for the parts of the material that are hardest to hold in one piece.

Every passage has an address. Citations are written session.question — 14.7 is the seventh exchange of session 14 — matching the numbering in the printed editions, so a reference made here resolves anywhere else. Search answers a question by quoting the passages that bear on it and citing them, rather than paraphrasing them away.

There is no wrong way in. Reading in order works — session 1 opens the contact, and the questions sharpen as Elkins learns what to ask. Starting from a subject works too: the guides quote the transcript throughout and link every passage back to where it sits, so an argument can be followed and then read around. Or ask outright. Type a question into the field above and the answer comes back quoting the exchanges it was drawn from, so it can be checked against the text instead of taken on trust. The corpus is, after all, answers to questions; asking is the native way to meet it.
