Consciousness climbs an octave of densities, and at each cycle's close the harvest sorts each entity into the level its polarity warrants.

The Densities & the Octave

Reality is a seven-note octave of consciousness, and evolution is the climb up its scale.

In plain language

Ra does not picture the universe as a single flat world but as a scale — like the notes of music. A density is one note: a whole level of consciousness with its own character and its own lesson. There are seven in a great octave, and just as the eighth note of a musical scale begins a new octave, an eighth density begins a whole new creation (). Within each density are seven sub-densities, and within each of those, seven further levels — the structure is fractal downward without end.

You and everyone you know live in the third density — the first density of consciousness of spirit, where self-awareness becomes the platform for the Choice. Below are two earlier levels: the barest flicker of awareness in the elements (first density), and the reaching of plants and animals toward light (second density). Above are four more: love, wisdom, unity, and the gateway back into mystery. Ra speaks from the sixth.

A density is not a place you travel to; it is a level you become. Evolution is the slow deepening of awareness up the scale, and each step is taken by the will and polarization of the entity, not by any mechanism that bypasses choice.

The musical octave and its structure

Ra draws on the analogy of western musical notation to explain density. After seven notes, the eighth begins a new octave; the same principle governs existence — seven densities compose a great octave, and within each density the same sevenfold structure recurs at smaller scale, and so on (). The image is of nested harmonics rather than a simple ladder. The eighth density is described as both omega and alpha: the point where all gathered spiritual mass re-enters unity and a new creation begins.

The seven lessons

Each density has its characteristic lesson, named by Ra in sequence: awareness, growth, self-awareness, love or understanding, light or wisdom, unity (love/light and light/love), and the gateway — followed by an eighth that is described only as a mystery Ra does not claim to understand (). This naming is not a detailed account of each density's experience; it is a skeleton. The descriptions thin sharply as they ascend.

Third density — where spirit enters

The third density is described specifically as the density of self-consciousness: the level at which entities who were mind/body complexes become mind/body/spirit complexes (). This is not an automatic development but one that comes through the process of self-awareness finding its spiritual dimension. Third density is brief relative to others and pivotal: it is where the Choice between service to others and service to self is made, the polarity that governs all subsequent densities.

The language fails as it rises

Ra is candid about the limits of third-density language for describing what lies above. Of the fourth density, Ra notes that there are no words for describing it positively — one can only explain what it is not and approximate what it is (). It is not a density of words, unless chosen. It is not one of heavy chemical bodies. It is not one of disharmony within self or between entities. What approximations can be made: it is a plane where one is aware of the thoughts of other-selves, where compassion and understanding of third-density sorrows abound, where individual differences persist but are harmonized by group consensus ().

Fifth density refines that love into wisdom. Ra's own experience traversing this transition is instructive: at fourth density, Ra's social memory complex carried an intense compassion that at fifth-density perspective appeared as folly — unrelieved compassion is a mismatch in the ultimate balance, effective for third density but incomplete on its own (). Ra spent much time in contemplation of the ways in which love is properly imbued with wisdom.

The gateway and beyond

At seventh density, Ra describes entities as gathering spiritual mass and approaching the octave density, at which point the backward-looking perspective of individual identity becomes unnecessary (). Ra's own aim is self-dissolution into the All — not the continuation of Ra's identity but the return of awareness itself to the Creator. What lies beyond the seventh is presented as genuinely unknown to Ra, not merely unutterable.

In Ra's words

The density structure, by the analogy of music:

The term density is a, what you would call, mathematical one. The closest analogy is that of music, whereby after seven notes on your western type of scale, if you will, the eighth note begins a new octave. Within your great octave of existence which we share with you, there are seven octaves or densities. Within each density there are seven sub-densities. Within each sub-density, seven sub-sub-densities, and so on infinitely.

The sequence of the seven lessons:

The densities we have traversed at various points in the circle correspond to the characteristics of cycles:

First, the cycle of awareness.

Second, the cycle of growth.

Third, the cycle of self-awareness.

Fourth, the cycle of love or understanding.

Fifth, the cycle of light or wisdom.

Sixth, the cycle of light/love, love/light, or unity.

Seventh, the gateway cycle.

Eighth, the octave which moves into a mystery we do not plumb.

How fourth density's compassion reveals its limit at fifth:

The fourth density, as we have said, abounds in compassion. This compassion is folly when seen through the eyes of wisdom. It is the salvation of third density but creates a mismatch in the ultimate balance of the entity.

Thus we, as a social memory complex of fourth density, had the tendency towards compassion even to martyrdom in aid of other-selves. When the fifth-density harvest was achieved we found that in this vibratory level flaws could be seen in the efficacy of such unrelieved compassion. We spent much time/space in contemplation of those ways of the Creator which imbue love with wisdom.

Harvest & Graduation

At the close of a cycle, each soul comes to rest at the level of light it can bear.

In plain language

The harvest is graduation: the moment at the close of a third-density cycle when every entity is drawn toward the density that matches what it has actually become. Ra describes the sorting mechanism as an illusion of light that grows steadily more intense. Each spirit moves along that line of light until the brightness becomes more than it can bear — and stops there (). There is no external judgment; the harvest is self-sorting, because the violet-ray emanation of each entity sums the whole of what that entity is, and cannot be performed for the occasion ().

The cosmos runs this on a clock. Three major cycles of roughly 25,000 years each — approximately 75,000 to 76,000 years total — and at the end of the third cycle all entities are harvested regardless of their progress, because the planet itself has moved through the useful part of that density and can no longer support it (). Ra states plainly that Earth is at that close now ().

Those who do not graduate do not fail in any punitive sense — they repeat third density on another sphere, with another full cycle of opportunity.

The mechanism of sorting

At a cycle's close, entities separate by their own choice into the vibratory distortion most comfortable to their mind/body/spirit complexes (). The image is light: an illusion of light/love in varying degrees of intensity, through which each harvested entity travels until the glare is too much. Where the entity stops determines which density it enters.

What makes this automatic is the violet ray — the summation of the mind/body/spirit complex in its totality, which cannot be adjusted in the moment of harvest. That which resides clearly in the violet-ray energy field determines the harvesting of each entity (). The violet ray is not something the entity consciously produces for harvest; it is the result of every experience encountered and every choice made across the cycle.

The three tiers of helpers

Ra describes the harvest as automatic yet supervised — a pairing it holds together without contradiction. In time of harvest there are always harvesters: the fruit forms as it will, but supervision is needed to ensure it is placed without bruise or blemish ().

Three tiers of helpers watch over the process. The first is planetary and angelic: higher-self totalities and inner-plane entities attracted to each entity through its seeking. The second tier is Confederation entities who stand in the small places at the edge of the steps of light/love, ready to catch those who stumble — not to change their vibration but to ensure they do not fall away from anything other than the strength of the light itself (). The third tier is the Guardians, from the octave above, whose role is to emit precisely calibrated emissions of light/love so that each entity's precise vibration can be ascertained ().

The supervision protects the opportunity; it does not alter the outcome. Each entity responds according to what is unchangeable during harvest — the violet-ray emanation ().

The cosmic clock and Earth now

One major cycle is approximately 25,000 years; three such cycles and the planet begins to leave the useful vibrational range for third density altogether (). Earth, Ra says, is third density in its beingness of mind/body/spirit complexes but already in fourth density in its space/time continuum — a mismatch causing a difficult harvest (). The planetary sphere has already moved, while the population has not uniformly followed.

Ra delivers this without sentimentality: the harvest is now, and the encouragement is not toward watching external signs but toward seeking the heart of self — which is what will be read in the violet-ray energy field (). The expectation is that a predominantly positive harvest will occur, along with a small negative harvest, but that many will repeat the cycle, as human thought-forms are scattered across the spectrum.

Across the universe

Among planets that yield a harvest at all, Ra gives approximate figures: roughly 10% produce a negative harvest, 60% a positive harvest, and 30% a mixed harvest of which nearly all is positive (). A planet that moves strongly toward the negative leaves almost no opportunity for harvestable positive polarization. These are not Earth's numbers specifically but the background rates against which Earth's current situation can be understood.

Beyond third density, harvest recurs at every density boundary — though the criterion shifts. By sixth density, polarity becomes history, and the measure is no longer the individual's violet ray but the social memory complex's degree of unity in service.

In Ra's words

The sorting light and its self-selecting mechanism:

Thus, the illusion is created of Light, or more properly but less understandably, light/love. This is in varying degrees of intensity. The spirit complex of each harvested entity moves along the line of light until the light grows too glaring, at which time the entity stops. This entity may have barely reached third density or may be very, very close to the ending of the third-density light/love distortion vibratory complex. Nevertheless, those who fall within this octave of intensifying light/love then experience a major cycle during which the opportunities are many for the discovery of the distortions which are inherent in each entity and, therefore, the lessening of these distortions.

The three tiers of harvest helpers and why the harvest is both automatic and supervised:

There are those of three levels watching over harvest.

The first level is planetary and that which may be called angelic. This type of guardian includes the mind/body/spirit complex totality or higher self of an entity and those inner plane entities which have been attracted to this entity through its inner seeking.

The second class of those who ward this process are those of the Confederation who have the honor/duty of standing in the small places at the edge of the steps of light/love so that those entities being harvested will not, no matter how confused or unable to make contact with their higher self, stumble and fall away for any reason other than the strength of the light. These Confederation entities catch those who stumble and set them aright so that they may continue into the light.

The third group watching over this process is that group you call the Guardians. This group is from the octave above our own and serves in this manner as light-bringers. These Guardians provide the precise emissions of light/love in exquisitely fastidious disseminations of discrimination so that the precise light/love vibration of each entity may be ascertained.

Thus the harvest is automatic in that those harvested will respond according to that which is unchangeable during harvest. That is the violet-ray emanation. However, these helpers are around to ensure a proper harvesting so that each entity may have the fullest opportunity to express its violet-ray selfhood.

On the violet-ray criterion and the urgency of now:

The harvest is now. There is not at this time any reason to include efforts along these distortions towards longevity, but rather to encourage distortions toward seeking the heart of self, for this which resides clearly in the violet-ray energy field will determine the harvesting of each mind/body/spirit complex.

In Ra's words — The Harvest

At the close of a major cycle, third-density entities are sorted into the density their attained polarity and clarity warrants — the process Ra calls the harvest. Ra says the cycle arrives with the regularity of a clock striking the hour, even as the durations themselves are approximate: three sub-cycles of roughly 25,000 years each, culminating in a gateway that opens regardless of circumstance (, ). The mechanism is self-selecting: an intensifying line of light/love along which each spirit travels until the light grows too glaring to continue (). Three tiers of watchers — angelic, Confederation, and Guardian-level — oversee the process to ensure no entity stumbles for any reason beyond its own vibratory state (). Earth's case is complicated: the planet has already entered fourth-density space/time while the majority of its population remains third-density in orientation, producing what Ra names a somewhat difficult harvest in which most will repeat the cycle (, , ). The passages close with the long statistical view across all planetary harvests () and the blunt statement that the harvest is not future but now ().

The passages

— The clock of three cycles

One major cycle is approximately twenty-five thousand [25,000] of your years. There are three cycles of this nature during which those who have progressed may be harvested. At the end of three major cycles—that is, approximately between seventy-five and seventy-six thousand [75–76,000] of your years—all are harvested regardless of their progress, for during that time the planet itself has moved through the useful part of that dimension and begins to cease being useful for the lower levels of vibration within that density.

— The gateway opens on the hour

The living flow creates a rhythm which is as inevitable as one of your timepieces.

The cycles move as precisely as a clock strikes your hour. Thus, the gateway from intelligent energy to intelligent infinity opens regardless of circumstance on the striking of the hour.

— The self-sorting mechanism

Those who, finishing a cycle of experience, demonstrate various grades of distortion of that understanding of thought and action will be separated by their own choice into the vibratory distortion most comfortable to their mind/body/spirit complexes.

This process is guarded, or watched, by those nurturing beings who, being very close to the Law of One in their distortions, nevertheless have the distortion towards active service.

Thus, the illusion is created of Light, or more properly but less understandably, light/love. This is in varying degrees of intensity. The spirit complex of each harvested entity moves along the line of light until the light grows too glaring, at which time the entity stops. This entity may have barely reached third density or may be very, very close to the ending of the third-density light/love distortion vibratory complex.

In time of harvest there are always harvesters. The fruit is formed as it will be, but there is some supervision necessary to ensure that this bounty is placed as it should be, without the bruise or the blemish.

The harvest is now. — Earth's split condition

The sphere upon which you dwell is third density in its beingness of mind/body/spirit complexes. It is now in a space/time continuum, fourth density. This is causing a somewhat difficult harvest.

— A scattered compass

However, the thought-forms of your people during this transition period are such that the mind/body/spirit complexes of both individual and societies are scattered throughout the spectrum instead of becoming able to grasp the needle, shall we say, and point the compass in one direction.

Thus, the entry into the vibration of love, sometimes called by your people the vibration of understanding, is not effective with the present societal complex. Thus, the harvest shall be such that many will repeat the third-density cycle. The energies of your wanderers, your teachers, and your adepts at this time are all bent upon increasing the harvest. However, there are few to harvest.

— The great majority repeats

The great majority of your peoples will repeat third density.

— One harvest, freely chosen

There is one harvest. Those able to enter fourth density through vibrational complex levels may choose the manner of their further seeking of the One Creator.

— Proportions across planetary harvests

Among planetary harvests which yield an harvest of mind/body/spirit complexes: approximately 10% are negative; approximately 60% are positive; and approximately 30% are mixed with nearly all harvest being positive.

In the event of mixed harvest it is almost unknown for the majority of the harvest to be negative. When a planet moves strongly towards the negative there is almost no opportunity for harvestable positive polarization.
