# Third density *Canonical page: https://ra.contact/concepts/third-density* *Last updated: 2026-06-25* *The density of self-consciousness and the home of the Choice — a uniquely short period whose whole purpose is to establish polarity.* ## What Ra means Third density is where second-density beings arrive once they gain self-awareness and the consciousness of spirit (13.21). Its defining feature is the veil of forgetting: this is the only plane of forgetting, and the forgetting exists so that the mechanisms of confusion and free will can operate on a newly individuated consciousness (21.9). The entity begins effectively in darkness, with no memory of its origin or purpose, and must find its way through catalyst alone. The intensity of its life experiences makes third density remarkably efficient: its catalyst, Ra says, polarizes an entity far more efficiently than the higher and more harmonious densities can (36.17). This is why it is so brief compared with the others: its only job is to lay the foundation for the Choice. Above this density the architecture of the Logos remains recognizable, but without the veils that are so integral a part of the process of making the choice (77.14). After three major cycles totaling roughly 75,000 years, harvest arrives whether enough entities are ready or not. Wanderers from higher densities sometimes choose to incarnate here precisely to exploit this efficiency, hazarding the danger of the forgetting in order to accelerate their own polarization or to serve those around them (36.17). ## In Ra's words Third density as the first density of spirit, and the transition from second density: > The second density strives towards the third density, which is the density of self-consciousness, or self-awareness.
