# The veil (veil of forgetting) *Canonical page: https://ra.contact/concepts/the-veil* *Last updated: 2026-06-25* *The deliberate separation of the conscious mind from its own deep mind, body awareness, and Higher Self, introduced in third density by the Logos to make polarization and harvest possible.* ## What Ra means The veiling is a space/time phenomenon — the conditions in time/space are unchanged before and after it — but it transformed the character of experience utterly (83.3). Ra describes its scope as enormous: before the veil, all facets of the Creator were consciously known; after it, almost none remained to the conscious mind (85.19). What was lost was the obvious perception of unity; what the obscurity made possible — free will, and the polarization the old, unveiled arrangement could not produce — is the veil's whole purpose (83.3). What the veil made possible was polarity, and through polarity, harvest. Before the veiling, entities moving through third density were more like a traveler walking up stairs in good light — each step visible, the threshold between densities clearly felt, and will essentially unneeded. The faculty of faith or will needs to be understood, nourished, and developed in order to cross the boundary into fourth density; those who did not do this homework, however amiable, did not cross (82.29). The veil created exactly the conditions in which will and faith become the tools of growth, because the seeker can no longer simply see that all is one. Beyond polarization, the veil activated several faculties that had been dormant. Far-seeing, dreaming, knowledge of the body, and most significantly the pure desire called will were newly energized by the very obscurity the veil imposed (85.19). The path back toward unity — the piercing of the veil — begins with green-ray activation, the all-compassionate love that demands no return, and proceeds through the higher energy centers until the adept can dismantle the veil to a greater or lesser extent for itself and others (83.18). This is also why wanderers accept the risk of the forgetting: if they can penetrate it, the catalyst of third density will polarize them far more efficiently than the harmonious higher densities can (36.17). ## In Ra's words The veil's scope — what was known before it, what disappeared after: > The primary veiling was of such significance that it may be seen to be analogous to the mantling of the earth over all the jewels within the earth’s crust; whereas previously all facets of the Creator were consciously known. After the veiling, almost no facets of the Creator were known to the mind. Almost all was buried beneath the veil. > > If one were to attempt to list those functions of mind most significant in that they might be of aid in polarization, one would need to begin with the faculty of visioning, envisioning, or far-seeing. Without the veil the mind was not caught in your illusory time. With the veil, space/time is the only obvious possibility for experience. > > Also upon the list of significant veiled functions of the mind would be that of dreaming. The so-called dreaming contains a great deal which, if made available to the conscious mind and used, shall aid it in polarization to a great extent. > > The third function of the mind which is significant and which has been veiled is that of the knowing of the body. The knowledge of and control over the body, having been lost to a great extent in the veiling process, is thusly lost from the experience of the seeker. Its knowledge before the veiling is of small use.
