# Polarity *Canonical page: https://ra.contact/concepts/polarity* *Last updated: 2026-06-25* *The orientation of consciousness toward service to others (positive) or service to self (negative) — the engine of evolution through the densities.* ## What Ra means Polarity is the orientation of consciousness toward service to others, the positive pole, or service to self, the negative. It is not a given but a thing chosen: it opens only when a third-density entity becomes aware that it can choose between serving others and serving self — the end of the innocent, unselfconscious phase of awareness (30.1). From that point an entity gathers polarity by clear, biased choice and action. The two poles are gathered by opposite means. Negative polarity is greatly aided by the subjugation or enslavement of other-selves: the entity that bids or enslaves another gains, while the one enslaved loses polarity even as its desire for negativity grows (55.3). Positive polarity is built the opposite way — through radiance and the honoring of others' free will. Nor are the two paths symmetric in their pull: pure negativity draws like a gravity well, while positivity can only invite, bound by its own respect for free will (71.14).
