# Distortion *Canonical page: https://ra.contact/concepts/distortion* *Last updated: 2026-06-25* *Ra's word for any specific manifestation, idea, or quality — because every articulation of the undivided One is necessarily a "distortion" of it; the term carries no blame.* ## What Ra means *Distortion* is the most load-bearing word in Ra's vocabulary, and it means *particular manifestation*, never *error*. In an infinite Creator there is only unity; "many-ness" is a finite concept, so the One has no parts (1.7). Anything that can be named, then — a body, an emotion, a law — is a finite shape the One takes, and therefore a distortion of it. This is why Ra calls even the Law of One a distortion, and uses the word without the least blame. Out of unity the distortions arise in a definite order: free will is the first; from free will comes Love, the second, which Ra also names the Logos; and from Love comes Light, the third. From these three flow the many hierarchies of distortion that make up creation, and past a certain point no one distortion stands above another (15.21). Distortion is thus not a flaw to be overcome: in Ra's first approximation of the Law there is no polarity, no right or wrong, no disharmony, but only identity — all is one, and that one is love/light, the Infinite Creator (4.20). ## In Ra's words Why the One can have no parts — and so why every named thing is a distortion: > That which is infinite cannot be many, for many-ness is a finite concept. To have infinity you must identify or define that infinity as unity; otherwise, the term does not have any referent or meaning.
