# Catalyst *Canonical page: https://ra.contact/concepts/catalyst* *Last updated: 2026-06-25* *Any experience offered to a mind/body/spirit complex so that it may be processed and used to polarize.* ## What Ra means Ra calls every experience that comes to an entity — chosen or random, sweet or bitter — *catalyst*: the raw material of growth. By itself it does nothing; what matters is what the entity makes of it. At the survival level the [sub-Logos](https://ra.contact/concepts/sub-logos) supplies the basic catalyst, but the higher centers draw their catalyst from the entity's own biased responses to what it meets (54.17). Ra pictures the sub-Logos as offering only a skeleton; the muscle and flesh — the growth of wisdom, love, compassion, and service — are built by the entity working upon that skeleton. As an entity matures, its reliance on outside catalyst thins until, at last, all of it is generated by the self, for the self (54.17). Catalyst is also specific to whatever processes it: catalyst taken up by the body is catalyst for the body, by the mind for the mind, by the spirit for the spirit — and any single input can be turned, in an entity's own way, into an experience unique to its biases (93.12). Its design is a fork. All catalyst is meant to be either loved and accepted or else controlled; when an entity does neither, the catalyst has failed its purpose, and more arrives until a bias toward acceptance or toward separation finally forms (46.16). A conscious entity can even set, before incarnation, how much catalyst it will meet — choosing the number of lessons it will attempt in one life (33.6). Catalyst can also miscarry: pain met without patience may sour into bitterness rather than yield its lesson, at which point further catalyst is offered so the self may yet find itself sufficient (34.6). ## In Ra's words The evolution of catalyst — from the sub-Logos's basic offering to something wholly self-made: > Thus the sub-Logos can offer only a basic skeleton, shall we say, of catalyst.
